County Clare

County Clare, situated on the west coast of Ireland, boasts a rich and captivating history. Dating back thousands of years, the region has been inhabited since prehistoric times. The Celtic tribes known as the Fir Bolg and later the Tuatha Dé Danann left their mark on Clare, as evidenced by their ancient stone structures and burial grounds that dot the landscape. In medieval times, the region was a stronghold of the powerful O’Brien Clan. Their great fortress of Bunratty Castle, still standing today, served as a symbol of their dominance in the region.

County Clare has also witnessed significant historical events. During the 19th century, the area suffered greatly from the devastating effects of the Great Famine. The population dramatically decreased, as countless individuals emigrated in search of a better life. This period left a lasting impact on Clare’s demographics and culture.
